In 1996, Turin-born Pier Paolo Monti bought a historical Barolo property in Piedmont, south of Monforte d'Alba. He immediately brought his winemaker friend Roberto Gerbino on board, they bought a few barriques from France and made their first wine - a Barbera d'Alba. Today they have 18 hectares of vines, growing mostly native Nebbiolo and Barbera, with a few experimental vineyards of Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet and Merlot. He built a state-of-the-art winery, completely solar-powered and underground cellars for ageing the wines.
