Description
It's almost 50 years since a little-known red called Sassicaia hit the spotlight, when it trumped the finest classed growth châteaux of Bordeaux in a blind tasting of Cabernet Sauvignon held by experts. It was the creation of Mario Incisa della Rocchettta, founder of Tenuta San Guido, who first planted Cabernet Sauvignon in 1944, inspired by the fine wines of Bordeaux. This was the wine that started the Super Tuscan movement and would go on to become one of the greatest and most celebrated reds of Italy. Le Difese is a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon and made in an earlier drinking (and more affordable) style to Sassicaia. Silky, elegant and intense.
