Clos Apalta and second wine, Le Petit Clos, come from a special part of the Colchagua Valley. The vines have a north to south exposure, rare for Chile, and a microclimate that's unique to them. The Tinguiririca river runs down one side, while the hills of the coastal Cordillera form a horseshoe shape around the other. This blocks out sunlight at sunrise and sunset, thereby drawing out the ripening and helping to make these remarkable, intense, long-lived wines.
