Description
A generously illustrated introduction to the work of Rosalind Nashashibi, the inaugural artist in the National Gallery's new Artist in Residence programme.Rosalind Nashashibi (b. 1973) is a London-based artist working in film and painting. Her films combine the everyday with the fantastical, incorporating cinematic narratives while using a painterly style to capture her observations. Her paintings absorb elements from a range of sources, exploring the potential of the painted canvas as a space of imagination. Nashashibi was appointed the 2020 National Gallery Artist in Residence in collaboration with the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness, Orkney.During the residency she spent time with both collections, reflecting on how they have influenced her own practice as a painter, and exploring the ongoing dialogue between the art of the past and that of today. This book presents Nashashibi's new paintings, developed during the residency, alongside essays about her earlier work and influences, and conversations between Nashashibi and two artist colleagues,Elena Narbutaitė and Lucy Skaer.AuthorsPriyesh Mistry is Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Projects at the National Gallery, London.Daniel F. Herrmann is Curator of Modern and Contemporary Projects at the National Gallery, London.Andrew Parkinson is Curator at Pier Arts Centre, Orkney.
