Description
The Bekaa Valley is a troubled place, yet winemakers persevere in making their outstanding wines. The region has a semi-continental climate, with cold winters, hot dry summers and reasonable rainfall (around 650mm annually) where old vines can thrive. Ksara's vineyards lie at 1,000 metres altitude, which means a big drop of temperature at night - perfect for quality wines with freshness and elegance. Founded in 1857 by Jesuit monks, Château Ksara is named after the fortress (ksar) that once stood on the site. It grows an array of both native and international varieties, one of which is its old-vine Carignan. Handpicked grapes from 60-year-old bush vines, grown at 1,200m altitude, this is a silky wine, with mature notes of leather and spice.
