Description
The southern Rhône produces reds of remarkable richness, warmth and power. And the most powerful and weighty of them all is Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Its name means 'the new house of the pope' and refers to when the centre of the Roman Catholic church moved to Avignon in the 1300s. Cuvée Préstigieux is a fabulous, rich red using Grenache, Syrah, Mouvèdre and Cinsault. It's from the Guillot family, who originally headed south from Burgundy in 1911 and bought a vineyard in the Rhône valley.
