Description
Revel in the rich, dark-spiced flavours of the Portugal's finest with this exceptional red. It's from José Lobo de Vasconcelos's 18th-century family estate, Quinta do Casal Branco. There he has extensive vineyards, but just one with vines at least a century old, some much older. It's been dubbed 'illegal' by the authorities, simply because the vineyard is dotted with equally ancient olive trees - a practice no longer allowed. The wine is a 'field blend' from this single vineyard - Castelão and Alicante for sure - all trodden by foot in the stone lagars, with a small addition of dark, intense Petit Verdot, all aged in fine oak barrels. Full of ripe plum, blackberry and dark chocolate notes, with notes of clove and creamy oak.
