The southern Rhône's nine cru villages deliver remarkable richness as well as value. One of the best is Sablet, a village in the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail, near Gigondas. Planted in the sandy soils of higher altitude vineyards, overlooking the Plan de Dieu, the hardy vines have to withstand a constant blast from the Mistral wind.
