Description
Marrying old-world winemaking techniques with Sonoma and Napa fruit since 1996, the Ramey family are known for their classic single-vineyard wines. The Rodgers Creek site is prime territory for growing Syrah, facing the Pacific Ocean from the slopes of Sonoma Mountain near Petaluma Gap. Planted 250m above sea level on rocky volcanic soils, the 20-year-old plot produces grapes with a distinct savoury character. Taking lead from Syrah's homeland in the Rhône, the bottling contains a small splash of co-fermented Viognier. Expect a wealth of red and black berry and cherry notes, and a savoury, spicy finish. Try it with burgers or lamb.
