Description
Ever wondered where and when wine was born? Many believe it was Georgia as early as 6,000 BC. In those days grapes were allowed to ferment in clay amphorae (qvevri), largely buried underground. A method, funnily enough, some of the smartest Bordeaux cellars have today returned to. This is a terrific modern white from a cellar founded in 1962 to sell bulk wine to Russia. That all changed in 1999 when the Margvelashvili brothers bought and totally revamped it, turning their sights to estate-bottled wines exported to the rest of Europe. In 2020, their young style Saperavi won Champion Red Trophy at the IWC. What a coup! Mtsvane is a star white grape, fermented in stainless steel to capture all its bright, fresh peach fruit and zesty crispness.
