Description
Wine Spectator described Stéphane Ogier's wines as "dynamic and elite", while Wine Advocate wrote "the estate is unquestionably in the top handful of domaines in the Rhône Valley". The family used to grow apricots, then fortuitously changed to grapes. Such was the quality that, until 1982, they sold all their fruit to top estates Guigal and Chapoutier. After two vintages in Stellenbosch, Stéphane took over from his father in the late 1990s, added extensively to the vineyards (he owns 10 hectares in Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph) and built himself a gleaming, modern cellar. Terroir is his raison d'être. Using Grenache and Syrah from Plan de Dieu and Visan vineyards, this is a gorgeous, spicy, rich-fruit red. A top choice with lamb.
