Description
Established in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, Yamazaki is Japan's oldest malt whisky distillery. Its initial inspiration was traditional Scottish malts, but today it makes fine whiskies shaped by the very different terrain and climate of Japan. The distillery is named after the suburb where it was built, on the edge of Kyoto, where three rivers meet, producing some of Japan's softest water. That helps to promote the delicately nuanced flavours of its malt whiskies, along with their use of different casks in the ageing process - American Spanish and Japanese Mizunara oak, as well as ex-Bourbon and sherry casks for special releases. Fruity cherry and berry notes, with a touch of vanilla spice, this is a smooth, delicious malt.
