Odd to think that Viognier, a native grape of the northern Rhône, was heading for extinction three decades back. Then a renowned Californian winemaker, Bonny Doon, took a liking and its fortunes turned. Now it's adored for its bouffant aromas of spicy peach, floral notes and tropical fruit.
